Energy Origins

Track and trace energy and material for ESG reporting or product quality verification

Energy Origins is an open source project we started while working at the Danish Transmission System Operator, Energinet. For Energinet and the electricity sector it provided a means to create granular certificates of origins for electricity on hourly or pr. 15 minute basis.

This comes in handy now that several organisations, energy agencies and tranmsission system operators are opening up granular certification schemes for electricity. A standard is slowly taking form, but measures to guarantee solutions can scale and that double counting of certificates does not happen has proven difficult. What is lacking for most implementations is the digital plumbing for making the certificates, proofs or claims if you will, digitally verifiable.

To do this in a way where claims could be shared, traded and validated, while not sharing sensitive data and at the same time maintain a very low energy footprint for the data processing was no simple task.

To solve this problem we established an open collaboration with Energinet, Concordium, Mjølner Informatics and the Alexandra Institute and we are proud to say that we have solved the problem and provided the software as open source software for anyone to use. Github Project Origin
