Energy Data Access Services
Access to electricity data is a popular topic. Standardization of processes, authentification and information models have been in place in a global context for at least a decade. We have worked with Danish and European regulation, DataHubs cross border data access and tokonized third party data delegation processen since 2015 while employed at the Danish Transmission System Operator, Energinet.
Soaring energy prices and a need for data for ESG reporting created a huge demand for energy data access and innovative applications relying an access to these data.
As demand for data increases we see an increasing problem with lacking data availability in almost all parts of the energy sectors. Public available services exist, but with a lot of issues for those who wish to build their business based on these services:
- Most services where not designed to scale.
- Most data providers provide a free service, but with very low service levels.
- Few data providers follow international standards of information models or process of authentification.
- Most data providers focus on services in app or browser user interfaces and rarely prioritize API's.
- No data providers design their services to enable access to data outside of their country of operations.
To investigate this problem we formulate this business hypothesis
Digital innovators rely and access to high quality, cross border, standardized electricity meter data access API's. Current data service offerings in the market enables start-ups to set up shop and attract funding. To scale, they need API services that scale with them and are willing to pay as long as cost of access follows use of API's.
Over the course of the comming months we deep dive into this hypothesis with a focus on electricity data, and more specifically:
- Meter data access
- Meter data access services delivery
- Consent management
- Price/tarif data
