About us

Who we are​

SEKKO is a small, Danish based, creative team of digital tinkerers with a background in digitalization and energy. We opened up shop on October 1. 2023.

We have a unique experience and skill-set for:

  • Software development & operations of control critical IT systems and large scale public data access and integrations platforms.
  • Energy industry and market regulations development and operationalisation incl. digital integration strategy and architecture.
  • Fast track digital development and innovative solution concept design.

Although we are a small company, we have a global outreach and a vast network of collaborators.

Why SEKKO​

We started SEKKO after a decade of working with the digital transformation of the energy system in Denmark and The European Union in different parts of the industry. The potential for digital solutions to many of the problems of the green energy transition is great, but each time we have wrestled these problems we have come to the same conclusion:

The problems of the energy ecosystem is wicked

meaning that a problem is difficult or impossible to solve because of incomplete, contradictory, and changing requirements that are often difficult to recognize.

Solving these problems require a completely different strategy of problem solving and a capacity to work with subtle, continuous changes to systems and subsystems, guided by long term goals and value creation across value chains and regulatory boundaries. This in combination with a culture af curiosity and risk mitigation by experimention lead us to the conclusion, that no single entity in the current ecosystem would be able to change fast enough to be able to deploy solutions at scale, in time to live up to the ambitions of a net zero energy system by 2050.

Not to say that we can achience all this in SEKKO, but we do believe we can provide some necesarry pieces to the puzzle.

Our goal is to provide a level playing field for digital innovation in the energy system at scale.

And how do we propose to do that?

Well, we believe we have come to understand a lot of the barriers for digital innovation in the current ecosystem:

  • Collaboration relies on each participant to undertake an overwhelming investment in time, effort and capital to operate outside of their normal regulatory, technical or operational boundaries.
  • Almost all digital infrastructure was designed to function within a certain operational paradigm, with a well defined and limited set of roles and responsabilities, the established paradigm is being replaced as renewable energy production takes lead.
  • Physical infrastructure has always been and will for the most part be the dominating focus for the majority of the industry. The sheer scale of energy asset deployment in the coming decade will push this focus to the extreme.
  • Very few operators in the industry has the digital competence or capacity to create high quality, scalable digital solutions as most system owners are bound by their own or collaborators legacy systems or IT operating paradigms.

What SEKKO provides is a way to collaborate and/or create solutions without the above limitations killing the effort. We ultimately want to enable anyone to deploy digital solutions to their problems at scale with as few restraints to value creation as possible.

How we operate​

We create value for our customers and the energy ecosystem by deploying high quality API's with minimal barriers to use. As we just started the venture we are far from ready to publish products yet. If interested read more in the API gateway case.

But before we get to that crisp, high quality, low comlexity API to solve your problem there is a few jobs that needs to be done. Providing simple service for you, means taking on a lot of risk and complexity on us. This means that we at SEKKO deep dive into the wicked problems of the energy ecosystem, so you don't have to.

There is a few rules to ensure we don't get lost in this process:

  • We start by defining a series of problem hypotheses and timebox an effort to try to first understand and then design digital solution concepts to accomodate the problems. We do this either as our own investment or on a consultancy basis, well because we do need to eat...
  • Secondly we flesh out a minimal viable product based on the digital solution concept partly to learn if the concept will work in real life and partly because collaborators often wants a quick fix to the problem rather than a long wait for a fully robust and scalable product to scale upon.
  • And finally, as mentioned if the value potential and business hypothesis of a high quality, scalable API is there, we create and maintain it taking on the risk and complexity of domains, regulations and legacy systems and translate this into automated processes, data feeds and hosted solutions allowing you to focus on value creation for your customers.
